Mukul M. Sharma, Ph.D.
President and Founder
Dr. Mukul Sharma is the president and founder, of Austin Geotech Services.
Mukul is a Professor and holds the W. A. “Tex” Moncrief, Jr. Centennial Endowed Chair in petroleum engineering in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has been for the past 33 years. His current research interests include injection water management, hydraulic fracturing, formation damage, petrophysics and improved oil recovery. He also researches surface and colloidal chemistry as well as multiphase flow in porous media and pipes as it relates to exploration and production to oil and gas. Mukul has published more than 400 journal articles and conference proceedings and has 23 patents. Mukul holds a B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical and petroleum engineering from the U. of Southern California. Among his many awards, Mukul a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and is the recipient of the 2017 SPE John Franklin Carll Award for distinguished contributions applying engineering principles to petroleum development and recovery, the 2009 Lucas Gold Medal - SPE’s highest technical award, the 2004 SPE Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award, the 2002 Lester C. Uren Award and the 1998 SPE Formation Evaluation Award. He served as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2002, and has served on the editorial boards of many journals, and taught and consulted for industry worldwide.
